FIREFIGHTERS used an old fashioned method to put out a fire this afternoon, Sunday, November1.
They extinguished the flames using buckets of water after being called to the incident in St Peter Street, Tiverton, at 4.29pm.
They had been alerted by a member of the public reporting a smoke detector sounding.
On arrival at the scene, they discovered an open fire had spread to a decorative plinth.
After using the buckets of water and chimney gear to put out the fire, they removed the plinth to the open air and monitored the surrounds of the fire with a thermal imaging camera.
