A lorry driver has been taken to hospital after a crash on the B3227 road from Bampton to Shillingford today.

Firefighters were called to a report of a lorry that had left the road and had gone down a bank towards the river.

One fire appliance from Bampton, one fire appliance from Tiverton and a heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor weresent to the scene.

Crews confirmed one lorry on its side with one person still inside but not physically trapped.

Oxygen therapy was administered to the driver of the vehicle and the environment agency was requested to attend due to a leak from the vehicle going towards the water course.

The lorry was carrying 300 litres of liquid animal feed and a quantity of granular feed and efforts are being made to try and contain liquids from entering the water course.

A safety officer in place, with an environment pack in use.

The driver has been taken to hospital by ambulance.
