A CANCER charity fundraiser is hoping to break the £10,000 mark this Christmas with a Cullompton fair.

Dorcas Phillips has already raised £8,000 for Force cancer charity and is hoping for another £2,000 this time round.

Dorcas, who has held three fairs in the last four years, said: "The event started 4 years ago when my mum had been diagnosed with cancer earlier in the year and having been so overwhelmed by the Force teams support we wanted to give back as a thank you and also to support other families who were facing the same awful disease.

"Last September myself and my fiancé completed the Force 10k superhero run dressed and Batman and Bat Girl and raised £400 for Force.

Dorcas' mum, Nikki, has now been cancer free for 18 months, and after tackling two broken legs as a result of her chemotherapy and a further operation to prevent ovarian cancer, this year decided to run the race for life.

"Cancer is a cause that remains close to mine and my family’s heart hence continuing to support Force, earlier this month we lost a really dear family friend Ruth who had battled the awful disease for 12 years and this has spurred me on to really drive the fundraising this Christmas.

"I already have the venue fully booked with 30 stall holders and local businesses who will fill the first floor of the community centre and this year we are taking over the second floor with a café style area for tea, coffee cake and a fantastic sweet stall.

"The event is family friendly and free to enter for all, has disabled access and free parking.

"It’s the perfect opportunity to bring lots of people into Cullompton to support local trade and crafts people.

"We have the usual prize raffle with lots of family days out up for grabs which is amazing as for the 4th year running local attractions and businesses are still continuing to donate prizes."

The event is taking place on Saturday, December 5, at Cullompton Community Centre, St. Andrew's Church.
