THE fire service have confirmed that a blaze which started in a car on Crediton High Street was accidental.
One crew was called after calls from members of the public reported a vehicle on fire outside the newsagents.
The reports came at 2.55pm yesterday (October 20).
Devon and Somerset fire and rescue service said: "A fire appliance from Crediton was mobilised following calls from members of the public reporting a car on fire outside the newsagents.
"On arrival the crew confirmed the private car was well alight on the public highway and set to work with 2BA and 1 hose reel jet.
"Once extinguished they used small tools to make the vehicle safe.
"The fire, which started accidentally, caused severe damage."
