PUPILS from Cullompton Community College have joined the community safety team to share information to help others stay safe on-line.

The young team supported the Community Safety pop-up shop located in Bampton Street, Tiverton by providing information leaflets and flyers to members of the public.

PCSO Anna Roberts was also on hand in the shop premises to provide further information and advice.

Julia Ryder, Community Safety Officer said: "We were delighted that students were able to join us and help spread safety advice.

“Their knowledge of how to stay safe on-line, how to protect their personal settings and how to report suspicious or malicious approaches on-line was excellent.

“It was great that they were able to promote these messages with us."

The Community Safety Shop is open each week, Monday to Thursday from 10am to midday until the August 6. Some days there will be themed events such as scam protection and security marking property such as laptops, bicycles and power tools.

The shop may be open for longer hours on these days.

The shop will be staffed by a variety of agencies including Mid Devon Council, Mid Devon Police, Fire & Rescue, Age UK, Trading Standards, Citizens Advice and Street Pastors.

Julia continued: "We will continue to provide information on internet safety but we also have lots of other information and advice available for the public.

“We are particularly concentrating on SCAMs as July is Scam Awareness Month so we are supporting Trading Standards to help protect our communities from becoming victims of telephone, postal or door-knocking scams.

“On July 4 we will be open until 4pm giving advice on how to prevent unwanted and nuisance telephone calls.”

More information on opening times and themed days will be available on the community safety web pages and at the shop front itself.
