A GROUP of Maasai Warriors will be walking through Tiverton dressed in their red robes and intricate beaded jewellery on Sunday after being invited by a Tiverton venue.

The group will spend the day at the Oak Room, St Peter Street, to talk to people about their culture and traditions, share their songs, stories and dancing traditionsincluding their famous jumping dance.

Sue Searle, owner of The Oak Room said: “This is going to be an amazing day and the Maasai are keen to meet people and share their stories. I am really looking forward to seeing the jumping dance.

“They are in the UK for six weeks and we are very lucky that they are able to come to Tiverton and the Oak Room.”

The day begins at 10am and three events will be taking place, starting at 11am.

An event for children will start at 11am and at 2pm there will be an event, showcasing stories, dancing and singing.

There will also be a supper where people can meet the Maasai and watch the sunset around an open firewill take place in the evening.

Funds raised will be used to help the Maasai with water, health and education in their village in Kenya.

The Maasai are a Nilotic ethnic group of semi-nomadic people inhabiting southern Kenya and northern Tanzania.

They are among the best known local populations due to their residence near the many game parks of the African Great Lakes, and their distinctive customs and dress.
