STAFF and pupils from Tidcombe Primary School in Tiverton will walk 10k this weekend to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.

Year 6 children, together with their teachers, will take on the Grand Western Canal 10k Walk on Sunday, to raise money for CLIC Sargent – the charity that supported one of the school’s inspirational current pupils, Oliver Butt.

Oliver was just four years old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia – but his treatment ended in April 2012 and Oliver has since gone from ‘strength to strength’.

Kate Southcott, a teacher from Tidcombe School said: “Throughout the treatment, Oliver remained positive and managed to continue with his education.

“Thankfully, his treatment ended in April 2012 and he's literally gone from strength to strength, joining in with lots of sports both inside and out of school - he's become a force to be reckoned with on the football and rugby pitch and joined in with some running events earlier in the year.

“He has a close network of friends and a fantastic big brother, Alex.

“His teachers and friends thought it would be a really nice way to celebrate the end of their SATs tests and also their time at Tidcombe Primary School by making a team to support the event which is organised by Mike and Kylie Butt and a great team of committee members.”

So from that, Team Tidcombe was born and some fantastic t-shirts have been printed by Impact Print and Wear, based in Tiverton.

Registration is still open for the event which takes place this Sunday (May 17) from 9.30am.
