THE Crediton Festival, which takes place a month from now, will put a spotlight on the many local groups and voluntary organisations running events for it.

They, with other groups, charities and arts organisations working in the local area, are being invited to take advantage of that to recruit more volunteers.

On the last morning of the Festival, Saturday, July 11, Involve (Voluntary Action in Mid Devon), the leisure centre and Sustainable Crediton will be taking over the town square to highlight all the ways people can get more active and involved locally.

“We want to encourage people to get out more,” said John Skrine, one of the organisers.

“The festival will be a great reminder of many of the activities that take place in and around the town.

“So this creates an opportunity to encourage people who have been inspired by that to get involved themselves, as volunteers, and to be more fit and active.”

Organisations will be able to book space in the gazebos used by the farmers market so they can use the event to encourage people to get involved with their work and raise their profile.

Lindsay Cameron, Volunteer Team Leader at Involve, said: "For groups who need volunteers, you never know quite what will prompt someone to get involved with what you do - and meeting people face to face can make a huge impression.

“With lots of opportunities to get involved out there, events like this are a great way for groups to stand out from the crowd and attract more volunteers.”
