STAFF and pupils at Uffculme Primary School have been jumping for joy after education inspectors declared the school ‘good’ in a recent report.

In its first inspection since converting to academy status, Ofsted praised its pupils, staff and governors – and the report was welcomed by executive head teacher, Lorraine Heath and head teacher, Jo Dentith.

The report said ‘attainment at the end of Key Stage 1 is above average in all subjects.’

This is also the case for reading and mathematics in Key Stage 2.

The report said that teaching is ‘consistently good and typically caters well for the needs of pupils.’

Pupils achieve especially well in reading across the academy and the teaching of phonics is highly effective.

Mrs Dentith, head teacher, said: “Uffculme Primary School has a strong capacity to get even better in the future and, to become an outstanding school, it should ensure that teaching and learning continue to reach even higher standards.

“Everyone at Uffculme Primary School is committed to providing an outstanding education for all pupils and the school is delighted that the report reflects the level of commitment from all involved.”

The children have also been enjoying their new-look playground after a £6,000 makeover was completed during the Easter holidays.

Through a successful bid by the Academy Trust, the school received a grant from Sport England through their Primary Spaces project to improve the playground area at school.

Primary Spaces are involved in improving outdoor PE and Sports Facilities across primary schools in England.

The climbing area and fit trail has also been extended, using funds that have been very kindly donated by the PTFA.
