TIVERTON children’s author Amy Sparkes is celebrating the publication of her latest book with a free launch party at Tiverton Library.

Amy will be reading from her new picture book, ‘The Mouse Who Sailed the Seas’, signing copies and running fun activities for children.

“The launch is a chance for the children to have some fun and enjoy the world of imagination,” said Amy.

“There will also be a couple of competitions to win copies of the book.”

‘The Mouse who Sailed the Seas’ is a zany, rhyming story about a mouse who goes on an adventurous quest to find cheese.

The book is illustrated by Nick East and published by Egmont.

Amy is becoming a well-respected figure in the world of children’s books, now signed by a top literary agent and three of the UK’s top publishers.

Her last book, ‘Do Not Enter The Monster Zoo’, was nominated for several high-profile book prizes, including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2013 and The Booktrust Best Book Awards 2014.

As a passionate supporter of baby charities, Amy donates 5% of author royalties to charity.

“‘The Mouse Who Sailed The Seas’ will be raising funds for ICP Support.

“Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) is a liver condition in pregnancy with symptoms that include itching. It is associated with stillbirth, premature labour and fetal distress.

“ICP Support provides information and support to people affected by ICP, raise awareness of the condition and fund research into it.

“Having experienced ICP in all of my pregnancies, this charity is really important to me and I’m delighted to support their work through my writing.

“It’s wonderful to think every book that is bought for and enjoyed by a child will also be helping to save babies’ lives.”

Amy will be in Tiverton Library, Phoenix Lane on Saturday, May 9, 10.30am-11.30am.
