A GROUP of diners at Sandy Park were treated to a five-course meal of gastronomic delights learlier this month (March 12), when Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines joined forces with Sandy Park Head Chef Denis Turner.

Held in aid of the Exeter Chiefs’ Charity, the Exeter Foundation, the evening raised a staggering £2,800 and highlighted the work of the charity to guests.

The Exeter Foundation is a ‘civic trust’ that was born out of the desire of the Exeter Chiefs and a group of Exeter businessmen to create a focus for the future of the city and its surroundings.

Chef Michael Caines, who is also a trustee of the Exeter Foundation, said: “It’s been brilliant to work with Denis and the Sandy Park team to create this menu, particularly as it’s been in aid of the Exeter Foundation – a cause which I’m very passionate about.”

Each of the five courses was introduced by Michael, giving insight into how the meal had been put together and why it had been chosen.

Many of the ingredients were locally sourced, including salmon from Gibson’s Plaice Fishmongers, beef from Pipers Farm and vegetables from Dart Fresh Produce.

The food was also complemented with a selection of wines, which were chosen by wine experts at St Austell Brewery and presented by a sommelier.

Talking about the evening, Denis Turner said: “This event has been a bit of a dream come true for me.

"I’d like to extend my thanks to Michael, the staff at Sandy Park and all of the suppliers who have contributed and made this evening special.”
