A CHARITY designed to tackle loneliness and isolation in the elderly are celebrating the success of funding towards their new Cinema Experience project for the over 60’s.

The ‘Young at Heart Club’, based just outside Wellington, has been raising money to purchase state of the art equipment to allow them to offer a professional cinema experience to older people.

The launch of the project has now moved a step closer thanks to the funding received from the Lady Amory Trust, Cllr Ray Radford of Devon County Council and The Norman Family Charitable Trust.

The ‘Young at Heart Club’ was founded by Lloyd and Diana Yorke in April 2014 and since then they have provided a valuable service to the older people in our region.

Lloyd said: “We have been raising funds from raffles and donations from club members but the additional monies received from these grant successes has moved us closer to our target.”

Diana said: “We thank the generosity of those who have supported our exciting new project.

“It is rewarding when others believe in what we are doing to help relieve the feeling of isolation and loneliness amongst the older people in our community.”

The club operates from Burlescombe Community Hall and transport is provided for those who need it.
