GENEROUS sailors on Plymouth-based warship HMS Sutherland have donated dry and tinned goods to the Plymouth Food Bank ahead of Christmas.

Leading Chef Sam Payne, Chief Petty Officer Gavin Tuach, and the ship’s captain, Commander Stephen Anderson, took the donations to the food bank and gratefully received by Maria and her team at The Oasis Project’s Food Bank.

CPO Tuach said: “HMS Sutherland’s ships company kindly donated items of food to Plymouth Food Bank in time for Christmas.

"Not only is it the time of year when it is good to help those in need, food banks are very much in the public eye due to the ever growing need and use for them all over the country so it was something we as a ship could contribute towards.’’

The food bank is a community project working to help people in need and fight poverty.

The project is helping people who are in financial crisis by providing them with much needed food, a listening ear and useful advice.

There are various places across Plymouth where donations can be made, further information can be found on www.plymouthfoodbank.co.uk.
