SAILORS deployed on a Plymouth-based survey ship have rallied together to raise over £2,000 for a hospice while on deployment.

HMS Echo’s crew have been staging events to raise money for St Margaret’s Hospice in Yeovil.

The crew returned from a demanding 18-month deployment which included searching for the missing Malaysian Airlines jet MH370.

During their time away the dedicated sailors still found time to hold events such as a ‘village fete’ and a cake sale.

Lieutenant Isha Harvey presented the cheque to the hospice. She said: “I am very proud to be able to present it to the charity, especially as I have friends who have benefited from this wonderful facility in Yeovil.”

St Margaret’s Hospice is a charity committed to providing specialist palliative care, advice, support and respite to the terminally ill and their families in the area.

HMS Echo will return to her home port in Plymouth for Christmas after routine maintenance in Falmouth.
