PEOPLE across Mid Devon fell silent this week to pay their respects to the victims of conflict.

In Tiverton, crowds gathered at Phoenix Lane for a service organised by Mid Devon District Council and town Mayor Cllr Sue Griggs laid a wreath.

Cullompton High Street came to a standstill as hundreds of people congregated at the town’s war memorial to pay their respects.

Military personnel, civilian representatives and officials from Cullompton’s organisations, clubs and societies laid Royal British Legion wreaths.

Students and staff at Uffculme School paid tribute by planting a flowering cherry tree in remembrance.

And children at Willowbank Primary School in Cullompton created a garden full of hand-made poppies in their playground to commemorate the centenary of the start of First World War.
