Inspector Jane Alford-Mole has been appointed the new police inspector for Mid Devon.

Having began her career with British Transport Police she transferred to Devon & Cornwall police in 2002 as a community and response officer. More recently she was the neighbourhood team leader in Tiverton, where she was instrumental in reducing the number of anti social behaviour incidents in the town.

Now managing the policing of the towns of Crediton, Cullompton and Tiverton and the rural areas between, she has responsibility for nearly seventy police officers.

Her aim is to work closely with partner agencies and local communities to fully understand the key priorities for mid Devon.

Her teams will continue to bring offenders to justice, so the areas’ enviable reputation as one of the safest in the country is retained.

“To serve as the sector inspector for mid Devon is an honour” she said. “I am keen to ensure that offenders continue to be targeted and my teams have a successful record in achieving this. With a number of our well known criminals dealt with through the criminal justice system, we will continue to ensure that those who cause misery to others are dealt with”.

Inspector Alford-Mole is also keen to continue to address the issue of safeguarding of vulnerable people, particularly those suffering from domestic abuse.

“We all know people in our community who are vulnerable and we all have a duty to look after them” she said. “We need to ensure we encourage victims to report crime and however busy we are, we need to take time to understand how a crime has affected the victim. It’s important we give a professional service to our victims and put them first.”
