KATHRYN Garnett, Head Teacher, is inviting prospective parents living in the South Hams, Ivybridge, Plymouth, Plymstock, and Plympton to an ‘open day’ on Wednesday, November 26 9am-1pm.

The day is designed to enable parents to meet the Head Teacher, staff, pupils and other parents with a view to understanding the unique values, vision and learning ethos that the School offers children. There is no need to book, just turn up.

On the day Holbeton children will be in class and a range of work will be on display.

Tours will lead parents around the school, and there will be plenty of time to meet and chat to staff members, pupils and other parents. Children visiting with their parents will be able to try out some of the activities on offer.

The School has a strong emphasis on the basics of Literacy and Numeracy, which are taught on a daily basis. In June 2014, OFSTED inspected the school and commented: “The experiences children have in Reception give them a good start to their education.”

And “By the end of Year 6, pupils’ standards in writing and mathematics are above average.”

In addition, children all participate in Forest School. Taking place in a wood in the village, children learn personal, social and technical skills.

It has been defined as “an inspirational process that offers children and young people regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence through hands-on learning in a woodland environment”. Forest School compliments the whole school Beach Day that takes place every summer on a private beach a mile from the school.

Other activities that the children enjoy include art, performing arts, music and sports such as rugby, tennis, football, surfing and sailing as well as several educational trips out every term. Working parents often take advantage of the daily breakfast club and after school club.

Holbeton Primary School is offering places to children starting school in September 2015 (who will be 5 years old between 1st September 2014 – 30th August 2015) plus those wishing to move school in years 1-6.

Kathryn Garnett, Head Teacher, “I am looking forward to welcoming parents to Holbeton Primary School. Being a small community school, the staff are in a special position to quickly understand individual’s learning needs and tailor their teaching accordingly, so that each pupil gets the best teaching that the school can offer within the classroom, and on a range of extra-curricular activities and trips.”
