A CANCER survivor from Tiverton embarked on a sailing trip to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

Chloe Carter, 13, took part in the trip with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, along with 16 other young people aged eight to 18 in recovery from cancer.

She joined the crew of one of five yachts to set sail around the Solent in the south of England in a four-day yacht adventure.

Chloe finished her treatment in March for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Sailing onboard 42-48ft cruising yachts, the trips provide a chance for young people to test themselves in a safe and supportive environment, encouraging them to work as a team and get involved in everything from helming the boat to cooking.

Chloe said: “I have really loved the sailing and I’ve managed to get involved in a lot of new activities which I’ve enjoyed.

“My best bit of the trip was going on the speedboat – it was awesome, the boat went so fast.

“I have also met some amazing new friends who have similar experiences to me. It has been nice to be able to share our stories.”

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust does not receive funding from the Government or NHS, so relies on donations.
