MEARS South West held their third annual Golf Day in aid of Devon Charity Hospiscare. In the first year the event raised £720, in the second £1,529 so the aim for the third year was to increase the total yet again.

The players were amazed and delighted to find out that they had not only beaten the 2013 total they had more than doubled it raising £3,500.

The 21 teams played at the Woodbury Park Golf and Country Club with registration, coffee and bacon baps from 8.30am.

The format was an 18 hole three quarter handicapped Stableford competition played on the ‘Oaks’ championship golf course. Refreshments at the Halfway House were sponsored by the Heavitree Breweries and the golfing part of the day finished at 5.30pm with light refreshments and prize giving.

The winners of the Mears trophy was the One Direction team with Newey Eyre and Philip Bruford Contractors coming in a close second and third.

Other prizes were also awarded for the longest drive and nearest pin. The day was followed by an evening dinner dance for golfers and non-golfer.

The evening featured live entertainment from Reckless, kindly supplied by Mears Regional Director Neal Edmonds.

Mears Exeter Branch Manager Philip Taverner who organised the event said: “We are delighted that the third Mears annual golf day was such a great success. We would like to thank everyone who came along and the sponsors who helped Mears raise essential funds for a wonderful charity.”
