British Transport Police officers are appealing for information after a charity-collection tin was stolen from Plymouth railway station.

Sgt Paul Curtis said: “A Help for Heroes charity collection tin, that had been attached to the HMS Scylla anchor which is featured on the thoroughfare between platforms at Plymouth railway station, has unfortunately been stolen.

“The theft took place at some stage between 9.30pm and 11.35pm on Saturday, June 28, which was Armed Forces Day, making this incident particularly despicable.”

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have information about who is responsible for the theft.

Sgt Curtis added: “Do you know the thief, have you heard anyone speaking or boasting about the theft, or do you have any other information that you think might help the investigation? If so, please get in touch with BTP straight away.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference GSUB/B10 of 30/06/2014. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
