Plymouth naval base stages extra tours
12:00pm Tuesday 1st July 2014 in Devon
EXTRA demand has led to Plymouth Naval Base opening its gates to visitors on two days a week to glimpse its rich history during the summer, starting next week.
Two tours a day will be available to the general public at 10.30am and 1.30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the remainder of June, July and August.
Gates will be open 30 minutes before each tour when the café and shop will also be open.
The opening of the Devonport Naval Heritage Centre follows from increasing popularity during Plymouth History Week.
Previously the heritage centre was only accessible via a private group booking or on a small number of open days throughout the year.
The new aim is to offer both guests the chance to come and see the centre by guided tour of the eight-gallery heritage centre.
The new tour days do not include decommissioned submarine Courageous which continues to be booked separately via the visitor centre booking desk on 01752 552326.
Visitors are asked to arrive 30 minutes before the tours start at the heritage site entrance which is outside the naval base, on Granby Way, Devonport.
