This is The West Country: Devon Games inspire Devon Games inspire

THE Devon Games to Inspire celebrated its 15th year of youth sporting success and participation on Saturday at the Sports Park on the University of Exeter campus.

More than 600 children from across Devon attended the event, taking part in a range of sports including netball, cricket, rugby, hockey and tennis.

Teams came from west Devon, South Hams, Plymouth, Teignbridge and Torbay, as well as Exeter & East Devon and Mid Devon.

The Devon Games to Inspire is part of a nationwide programme of five Sainsbury’s School Games festivals in Devon and is delivered by Active Devon on behalf of the Devon School Games local organising committee.

Young people from local schools, colleges and other organisations provided crucial support on the day by working as Games Maker-style volunteers.

A large group of cadets from Exeter and East Devon also volunteered on the day, helping the event to run smoothly.

Active Devon, the County Sports Partnership for Devon, organised the event.

Active Devon chief executive Matt Evans said:“Active Devon is really proud to have played host to such a wonderful Sainsbury’s School Games event.

“With over 600 competitors, and supported by 50 young volunteers, the day has been really well received.

“We’re delighted that the Sport England Lottery funding is having such a positive impact for grassroots sport in Devon.”
