A SENIOR rating has been presented with a certificate at Plymouth marking 22 years of excellence service in the Royal Navy.

Chief Petty Officer Sarah Fisher was presented with her valedictory certificate at an awards ceremony by the head of the ships and submarines in HM Naval base Devonport.

The award marks her time served before now leaving the Navy.

She said: “It was nice to be presented with my award in front of my peers and was glad my husband was able to attend.”

Sarah is now looking forward to “focusing on her family” and ‘enjoying family adventures’ with her husband Paul and daughter Erin. Aged 5.

Commodore Richard Farrington, Commodore Devonport Flotilla, presented Sarah with her award in front of an audience of her colleagues.

He said: “This award marks the challenges and sacrifices that Sarah and others like her typically make serving in the Royal Navy.’’

He told her: ‘’You thoroughly deserve this award and have done a terrific job. Your career represents a summary of the excellence of our personnel in the modern navy.’’ Sarah was born and raised in Plymouth and lives there."

She has enjoyed her time in the Royal Navy ‘immensely’ and credited the service with giving her skills, opportunities and experiences she will always remember and appreciate. She Joined the Royal Navy in 1992 and after basic training at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint, Cornwall, she completed an engineering apprenticeship at HMS Sultan in Gosport, Portsmouth.

Sarah served in warships HMS Brave, HMS Campbeltown, HMS Norfolk, HMS Montrose, HMS Cornwall and HMS Somerset. She described the highlights of her career as meeting a variety of people and travelling extensively
