Devon County Show organisers face half-million cancellation payout
4:49pm Friday 30th May 2014 in Devon
The organisers of the Devon County Show have been left £500,000 out of pocket after they cancelled the final day without having adequate wet weather insurance.
The second day of the show had to be cancelled after wet conditions on Friday caused access problems, with cars having to be towed by tractor from muddy car parks.
As a result of the cancellation and of "horrifying" insurance premiums, the Devon County Agricultural Association is now faced with compensating Saturday ticket holders, although as yet they have not made it fully clear whether or not stall holders will also be reimbursed.
Secretary Ollie Allen told BBC Devon: "The premiums for wet weather insurance are horrendous.
"The types of insurance we have looked at, [means] a certain amount of rain has to fall in a certain amount of time and we have to prove it."
