TWO teams of staff and students from Tiverton High School headed for the hills last weekend to represent the school in the 54th Ten Tors Challenge.

The 13 students, selected after training walks over the past few months, left school on Friday morning with team manager Leo Biles.

The pink shirts of the 45ers team came over the brow of the final hill on Sunday afternoon and were the last team to cross the finish line before the gate closed.

Sadly, the 35ers team reached the last Tor at 5pm, and did not have time to make it to the finish line before it closed, so were transported back to the fallout centre, having lost two members to minor injuries.

Head teacher Andrew Lovett was proud of the students’ achievements.

He said: “Yet again the young people of Tiverton High School have shown us what strong stuff they are made of.

“Everyone here is proud of their achievement and we will all be patting them on the back in the coming days.”

Hannah Kallaway, of the 45ers team, said: “We were so happy to see the gate was still open and are all proud to have finished on time.

“We are also really sad that the 35ers were so close to the final gate and feel sure they will be back next year as the new 45ers.’’
