MID Devon charity Hospiscare is calling on mums, daughters and groups of friends to take part in their annual Starlight Walk.

The 12k walk takes place on May 10, starting and finishing at Exmouth Football Club.

This fun night out for the girls includes a Zumba warm up and music by the Exmouth Shanty Men.

Each walker is given the chance to remember a loved one and provided with a memory star to write the name of their loved one on.

Lynda Hardacre took part in the walk last year in memory of her father who died in the Exeter Hospice two years ago. Lynda said: “Whilst spending time with Dad in his final days my Mum, sister and I noticed a poster saying that it took £400 per day to look after one patient, with that in mind the three of us agreed to take part in the Starlight Walk. We raised more than £1600 between us, enough to pay back the Hospice for the care Dad received in his final days.''

''Hospiscare were there for us during Dads last days and still today as Mum comes to monthly coffee meetings that are held. Nothing will ever replace my Dad, but knowing that he was so well looked after in his last days will always be a comfort to us.''

The Starlight Walk also offers the chance to get fit and enjoy a beautiful walk under the stars along the Exmouth coastline.

Shirely Tanner said: “I was conscious that my waistline has taken a turn for the worse, I needed a goal so decided to join a friend on the Starlight Walk.

“7.5 miles still seems a very long distance for me but I am determined to do it for the wonderful support staff and for those who has sponsored me.''

Whether remembering a loved one, challenging yourself to get fit or just having a fun night out with the girls, the walk it set to be a night to remember. For more information or to register to take part please visit www.womensstarlightwalk.co.uk
