A SUCCESSFUL Tiverton children’s author is offering a new scheme of writing courses, from Tuesday.

Amy Sparkes, whose books have been shortlisted for national book prizes, will be running the courses at PETROC in Tiverton.

The first course, ‘Prepare to Submit Your Children’s Book’, runs for three consecutive evenings, starting March 4.

Amy said: “The idea beyond this intensive course is that it gives participants a chance to really focus on a story or idea they would like to develop or submit to publishers and agents.

“Aspiring authors often struggle to find the time and motivation to write and this course allows them three evenings to work on their story with professional guidance.”

Amy has accomplished many of her own writing dreams, acquiring a top literary agent and so far having four books published.

The last book, Do Not Enter the Monster Zoo, was shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2013.

Amy is passionate about encouraging aspiring children’s authors and offers writing courses and a free monthly Children’s Writers group in Tiverton.

She said: “It can be hard for many writers to attend conferences or writing retreats so this new intensive workshop offers a local alternative.

“The joy of this course is that it runs at the students’ pace and meets them at whatever stage they are at with their writing.”
