A YEAR 10 pupil from Tiverton High School has been baking his stuff at the Bake it Big School Cake Challenge regional finals.
After winning an in-school cooking competition, Harrison Burton was selected to take part in the finals – and after travelling to Exeter on Friday evening, he had an hour and a half to prepare, make and decorate his cake before serving it to the judges.
Standards were high and competition was fierce with students competing from 13 schools across Devon.
Harrison’s creation was a chocolate, walnut and beetroot cake with a white chocolate and cream cheese icing topped with milk chocolate curls.
Although Harrison did not win the event his design was highly praised by Great British Bake Off contestant Glenn Cosby, who arrived as a surprise judge during the evening.
Harrison did a fantastic job representing the school and all students were rewarded with a ticket for two to the Big Cake Show at WestPoint Exeter in March, where they will receive a personalised certificate and, it is hoped, get to meet the ‘Queen of British Baking’, Mary Berry.
