Police in Brixham have discovered a suspected cannabis growing business at a property in the town.

Acting on intelligence officers from Brixham Neighbourhood Team entered a premises on South Furzeham Road at around 2.30pm on Friday, January 31.

They called for assistance and when additional local officers arrived the two occupants at the property were arrested.

The subsequent search of the premises resulted in a large-scale professional set up being discovered in the basement area of the house and associated production works in the detached garage.

Officers discovered around 200 suspected cannabis plants, in various stages of growth, as well as suspected cannabis with an estimated street value of £100,000.

A 48-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis with intent to supply, and a 32-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a controlled drug. Both have been released on police bail until 7 April 2014.

Enquiries are continuing and police await the results of forensic tests of the drugs seized.

Sergeant Steve Cayless, Brixham neighbourhood team leader, said: “The neighbourhood team are determined to deal robustly with all drugs offences and we urge anyone with any information of drug activity in the area to get in touch.”
