Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was hit by a car in Paignton on Sunday.

Officers were called to Waterleat Road just after 7.30am on January 12, after a 45-year-old woman was found lying on the pavement opposite the junction with Shepherds Close.

The woman is believed to have been walking on the pavement with her dog between 6.30am and 7am when she was struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle is believed to have been driving along Waterleat Road from the direction of Kings Ash Road when it mounted the pavement and struck the woman. The driver stopped briefly and then made off from the scene.

The woman suffered head and leg injuries as a result of the incident.

Anyone who knows the vehicle or driver involved, or has any other information, is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 185 of 12 January.
