Meat cleaver robbers jailed for raid on north Devon garage
4:20pm Monday 4th November 2013 in Devon
Two people have been found guilty of armed robbery at a north Devon garage.
Lee Prouse, 24 and Jordanne Morris, 21, both of Stanhope Square in Holsworthy, have been found guilty of robbing Knowle Garage in Braunton on Saturday 10th November 2012, following a week-long trial at Exeter Crown Court.
A third defendant, 28-year-old Jamie Latta, of no fixed address, Barnstaple, pleaded guilty prior to the trial.
Prouse and Latta robbed the garage brandishing weapons while Morris drove the getaway vehicle.
Grandmother, Trude Mian chased them from the shop.
The officer in the case, DC Simon Scotthorne of Barnstaple CID said: “This was a violent and terrifying attack on a lone woman by two men wearing balaclavas who had armed themselves with a meat cleaver. They assaulted and then robbed the victim at her place of work.”
DC Scotthorne paid tribute to the victim, Trude Mian, saying: “She showed remarkable courage in standing up to these violent individuals.
“Thankfully these types of incidents are rare but Devon and Cornwall Police are committed to targeting violent crime.”
