Would-be thieves set Devon cash machine alight
10:03am Wednesday 30th October 2013 in Devon
Would-be thieves at Carew Services at South Brent set a cash machine on fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police were alerted at approximately 3am this morning, after a report that two men were seen to be acting suspiciously at Carew Services on the A38.
On police arrival two men dressed in hoodies ran from the scene. The cash machine was alight at the time, which officers immediately put out using a nearby extinguisher.
Fire units were called who made sure the fire was properly extinguished.
An immediate search of the area was carried out by police, including assistance from a nearby dog unit, which ultimately proved unsuccessful.
One of the men is described as being around 6ft tall, wearing a grey hoody and grey tracksuit trousers.
A police spokesman said: “This is a fairly rare type of incident and a number of lines of enquiry are being followed. We’d like to hear from anyone who may have driven past around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious.”
An investigation is now underway by detectives. Anyone who has any information about this incident is asked to call police on 101 and quote reference JS/13/1315.
