Postal delays in Wellington as Royal Mail rings the changes
7:00pm Friday 27th September 2013 in Devon
WELLINGTON may have to wait longer for its post after changes to delivery services.
The Royal Mail has introduced new delivery methods and routes in the town and the surrounding area, meaning some home owners may not receive their post at the times they currently do.
Postmen will use new methods and adopt revised delivery routes as the changes are brought in on a phased basis, said Royal Mail.
But bosses anticipate the changes will take some time to “bed in” while staff get used to the new way of working.
A spokesman said: “The way in which we communicate with each other has changed dramatically.
“Unfortunately, fewer letters are now posted every day, and Royal Mail needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible.
“We also delivermore larger items, so we’re investing in new equipment to carry these to customers even more securely.
“The new equipment also reduces the risk of injury to our postmen and women from carrying heavier mail bags.”
The changes will affect everyoney in the TA21 (sector 0) and TA21 (sectors 8-9) postcode areas over the next few weeks.
Royal Mail is writing to every address in Wellington about the changes, which will also affect businesses and other organisations.
Customer queries should be directed to 0845-6011399.
