Monumental opportunity in Wellington
5:00pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Devon
LUCKY visitors were able to look inside the Wellington Monument at a National Trust open day.
The monument, which was closed due to deterioration in 2005, was created in honour of the Duke of Wellington to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Waterloo.
At 175ft tall the Egyptian inspired obelisk is the tallest of its kind in the UK.
The National Trust is in the process of finding out how to repair the monument and improve the area around it for visitors to enjoy.
