Increase in Devon motorbike crashes
7:00pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in Devon
THERE has been an increase in the number of crashes in Devon involving lower powered motorbikes.
In response to the number of collisions, Devon County Council have produced a helpful guide which aims to promote safe driving techniques for commuters who use low powered motorbikes, particularly mopeds, to get to and from work.
The Commuter Biker Guide highlights common incident scenarios, such as the SMIDSY ('sorry mate, I didn't see you') as well as advising riders about positioning in the road, overtaking, safe distances and driving on slippery road surfaces.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The motorcyclists guide is a valuable and useful resource and I would recommend anyone using this form of transport to read it; it could save your life.”
