Tip-off helps track suspect in Crediton burglary
9:00pm Monday 9th September 2013 in Devon
A TIP-OFF from a member of the public has helped police in Crediton track down a woman wanted in connection with a burglary.
Police had stepped up patrols in the Lapford area following an incident and found a woman who fitted a description from a nearby resident in the area.
Local beat officers found the suspect close to the scene of the burglary and she was arrested and searched.
She was taken to Heavitree Road Police Station for questioning.
Sgt Dave Macfadden said: “Thank you to the members of the public who contacted police the previous day giving us sightings of this female suspect, which has ultimately led to an arrest.
“As a result of the arrest we have now managed to locate the majority of the stolen property, which will be returned to the owner in due course.
“We do try to act as quickly as possible when we receive such information and in this instance it has worked to good effect.”
Sgt Macfadden said he believed that havingmore officers working out of Crediton police station on a full-time basis is helping tackle crime.
He added: “In recent weeks we have managed to arrest quite a few suspects who have come into the Crediton area committing crime and I believe this is a direct result of the community letting us know about suspicious incidents they have seen.
“I would just like to remind everybodythat if theysee anything suspicious happening in their area, regardless of how small they may think it is, to call and let us know.
“The famous quote I always remember about that is ‘from a small acorn grows a large Oak tree’.”
Police can be contacted on the non-emergency 101 number or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
