All three men, from the Tiverton area, played for youth football team Twyford Spartans and Daniel was described as a 'very good midfield winger'.
A club spokesman said: “It is a big shock because they are so young and Daniel came from a very nice family.
“We hope that Tom Moyes and Tom Pilling both recover and come back to being a fully integrated part of the community.”
Mid Devon football club Willand Reserves called off their game as players were left distraught when they heard the news.
Pete Buckingham, first team manager at Elmore Football Club, where Mr Pilling used to play, said they passed the incident on the motorway on their way to a match.
He said: “We didn't think for one minute it would be anyone that we knew and there was disbelief among the players when they heard who was involved.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101.
