FOLLOWING extensive public consultation, works to improve leisure facilities at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre in Crediton are about to start The fitness studio is being extended and refurbished throughout and fitness equipment is being upgraded. The fitness and dance class studio storage area is being increased to house new spinning bikes and the main sports hall is also being given a complete facelift.

Works should be completed by March 22 and disruption kept to a minimum as far as possible, but there will be an impact on some centre users.

Lee Chester, centre manager, said: “On Thursday, February 7, the fitness studio will close at 10.30am so that the equipment can be moved downstairs to the sports hall as a temporary measure during building works.

"We hope that the temporary studio will be open from Friday 8 or Saturday 9 February. Full details will be available on our website and Facebook page.

"We realise that moving the gym into the sports hall will have a knock-on effect on court availability, so that only two of the usual four courts will be available. The refurbishment work also includes the total redecoration of the sport hall, from floor to ceiling. This will revive the hall and improve the playing environment for court sports and other users. The floor will be sanded, re-lined and sealed and the dividing nets will be replaced."

“The sauna will be closed for the whole period of refurbishment. Work to the first floor gym area will start from Monday 11 February and work in the dance studio will commence on Monday 18 February. The fitness and aerobics classes will continue as near as possible to the regular programme, but there will be a few adaptations due to the work."

Centre users are advised to keep up to date by checking the website www.middevonleisure.org.uk, Facebook page and notices displayed in the centre as work progresses.
