The Military Wives Choir will take centre stage at the Plymouth Christmas celebrations cancelled due to wild weather in November will now be held on Thursday, December 20.

Plymouth City Centre Company and Plymouth City Council have re-scheduled the stage entertainment that should have taken place as part of the annual Christmas lights switch-on on Thursday 22 November.

Plymouth’s Christmas Celebration starts at 4pm on Cornwall Street and will feature The Military Wives Choir, Joker and Gaga Unleashed as well as pantomime stars Christopher Biggins and Basil Brush. The city will also be celebrating the fantastic achievements of some very special Plymothians between 6.15pm and 6.30pm.

Heart FM and ITV Westcountry will be there to cover the event and make sure it goes with a bang.

Clint Jones, Plymouth City Centre Manager, said: “We were so unlucky with the torrential rain and gale force winds which resulted in our 22 November event being cancelled. Despite the rain our spirits have not been dampened. The entertainment at Light Switch On is so important for the city that we couldn’t let Christmas happen without it! We are delighted to be able to re-schedule the event as a Christmas Celebration and to share a fun-packed festive party with everyone in the city.”

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “We know how much everyone looks forward to the Christmas celebrations in the city centre and we’re really pleased that all of the original guests and performers are able to take part on 20 December. There’s bound to be a great atmosphere as people count down the last few days to Christmas and this will be the perfect way to kick off all the festivities.”
