Police in Plymouth are warning owners of mopeds and scooters to take extra care after a spate of thefts in recent weeks across the city.

There have been around 26 recorded thefts of motorcycles in the last month. These were taken from residential areas and car parks during the day and at night.

Police advise owners to use a good quality bike lock if at all possible and always try to leave the bike in well lit areas.

A police spokesman said: “We’re keen to catch whoever is doing this and we’re going to need the public’s help in keeping their eyes open and reporting suspicious activity around these bikes.

“These thefts cause tremendous inconvenience for the owners who often use them to commute to work.”

"If anyone sees anyone acting suspiciously around motor vehicles call 999 and report it to the police immediately."
