BIG changes to the way the newspaper industry is regulated could be tabled today (November 29) as Lord Justice Leveson prepares to publish his long-awaited report.

The report, to be published at 1.30pm this afternoon, will set out recommedations for the future regulation of the press following the phone-hacking scandal.

Double edged sword here - there's no doubt that self regulation through the PCC has failed.... however the vast majority of the actions Leveson has investigated are already covered by law (hacking, harassment etc.).

I'm NOT in favour of statuatory regulation as when the state starts to control media we start down a slippery slope - I AM in favour of some kind of contract between media owners and an independant body where large fines can be issued without any political meddling.

Well it looks like state regulation is on it's way by the back door - who will that protect? Not joe public but the rich, powerful and famous!
