Villages have been cut off, roads closed and train services disrupted after heavy rain and flooding overnight in Devon.

Schools are reported to have closed with Devon County Council saying the rain has caused two landslips on the B3192 in Teignmouth.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said crews had been called out to pump water from flooded homes.

The Environment Agency website shows that there are 54 flood warnings in place across the South West.

A spokesman from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they are experiencing calls to flooding across the area, with fire control currently managing 30 incidents.

The Fire Service are advising the public not to drive through floodwater and to seek an alternative route and consider whether the journey is necessary.

Flood alert areas include the Lower River Exe from Tiverton to Exeter, including Bickleigh and Stoke Canon areas. Polson Bridge, Horsebridge, Gunnislake, Lifton and Sydenham. The Rivers Creedy, Creedy Yeo, Little Dart, Lapford Yeo and their tributaries. Lympstone, Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Honiton, Ottery St Mary and Sidmouth areas. the Rivers Avon, Erme and Harbourne, coastal streams from Bigbury to Dartmouth, and Kingsbridge, South Brent and Ivybridge areas.

The Totnes, Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Dartmouth and Torbay areas are also affected.
