Carn Brea swim school reaches 1,000 milestone
9:00am Saturday 20th October 2012 in Cornwall
Carn Brea Leisure Centre swim teachers celebrate reaching the 1,000 milestone with the Moran family (centre), who won free swimming until January 2013.
Carn Brea Leisure Centre’s swim school is celebrating reaching a milestone 1,000 pupils.
The swim school in Pool opened its doors for the first term of lessons with around 200 children, after the centre was reopened as a charitable trust in 2000.
Since then it has grown year upon year and now offers everything from standard group and one-to-one lessons to the more unusual synchronized swimming, water polo and rookie lifeguard scheme.
Matt Johns, activities manager at Carn Brea Leisure Centre, said: “As a local charity and social enterprise, one of our biggest aims is to provide a professional and friendly swim school that offers value for money to the whole community.
"The fact we have now hit our target of 1,000 children shows this is being achieved and I'm especially proud of what we have accomplished over the last three years.”
He added that seeing children enjoying their swimming lessons as they progressed was “truly rewarding” and was a “great reflection” of the hard work and commitment put in by staff, especially the swim teachers.
“We would also like to thank all our customers for their continued loyalty and support as we couldn’t be here without them,” he added.
To celebrate the milestone, the centre randomly selected one family who were rewarded with free swimming for the whole family until the start of the next term in January 2013, plus a set of official Carn Brea goody bags.
The Moran family, who have been part of Carn Brea’s swim school for several years, were the lucky prize winners.
Johanna Moran said: “All my three children have learnt to swim through Carn Brea swim school and they’ve always thoroughly enjoyed it.”
