Goldolphin House Summer Fair fundraiser

GODOLPHIN’S Summer Fair took place at Godolphin House to fundraise for the village Christmas lights and the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Alison Hallett, the fair’s organiser for the second year running, said that this year’s set up was slightly different to previous years.

Usually stalls are set up in the apple orchard, but this year bad weather did not allow it and they were moved inside. Despite these slight changes, “everyone was pleased” she said, with approximately 1,200 people turning up. Refreshments included hot dogs, cakes and a beer tent, and there was a wide range of stalls.

By paying £20 for a pitch, stallholders could sell a variety of different goods from fruit and vegetables to vintage jewellery. Big brand names like The Body Shop also attended to show their support. There was entertainment for the children with a face painting stall, tombola and a bouncy castle.

Music played throughout the whole day. In the morning, The Cornish Werewolves and Backjam performed and in the afternoon several charity singers delighted the visitors.

The total amount raised was over £1,300, which will be principally directed towards the funding of Godolphin’s Christmas lights. Godolphin’s fair and harvest auction are the only two yearly events to fundraise for the festive lights display and this year the committee wants to upgrade to LED bulbs.

At the same time, money taken through collection buckets, as well as a percentage of the total amount made, will go towards the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The Christmas lights will be switched on during the evening of December 15.
