TV star guest of honour at Grade Ruan Autumn Show
7:00am Thursday 18th October 2012 in Cornwall
Fisherman’s Apprentice Monty Halls certainly caught plenty of attention when he was guest of honour at this year’s Grade Ruan Autumn Show.
He was one of the main hooks for visitors when he opened the event and then presented the prizes to winners.
The show took place at Ruan Minor Village Hall, which is just up the road from Cadgwith where Monty spent many months filming his popular TV series looking at the lives of fishermen in the cove.
David Endean, from the show, said Monty was “brilliant with everybody”, signing books and meeting fans of his programme. The show itself had about 800 entries, which is average for the event, but the number of exhibitors was down slightly to 114.
The highlight of the show was the vegetable section, from which Clarence Thomas won the best in show trophy for his three leeks. He also took away the cup for most points in show and an array of other trophies.
Among other notable exhibits was Julia Nunn's drawing of her pets, which attracted much comment, while Andrew Fletcher's photo of Cadgwith was admired by many, especially from the fishing community of the cove.
Mailli Carter did well in the children's section, walking off with many trophies, having earlier presented buttonholes to Monty and the show officials alongside Jaime Trewin.
Young Harry Deacon did well winning the best exhibit in the cookery section, with a decorated cake themed on the Fisherman’s Apprentice. Mr Endean added: “All in all the show went off well and everybody had a good day.”
