New Helston Christmas events planned
5:00pm Wednesday 17th October 2012 in Cornwall
The build up to Christmas will be double the fun in Helston this year with two big events to look forward to.
In addition to the Christmas lights switch on, which takes place on Friday, November 30 this year, there will be a second night of celebrations on Friday, December 14 when Father Christmas will come to town – possibly by helicopter.
There is also a plan to have a special post box in town where children – and grown-ups – can send letters directly to Santa.
These were just some of the ideas explained to traders last week by Emma Wooderson of the Epworth Hall. As a member of the Town Team on the Helston Business Improvement Partnership, she is working alongside Christmas lights organiser Robert Williams to extend the festivities this year.
Ms Wooderson said the celebrations would include singing from ACT1 and ACT2 theatre groups, as well as Helston’s military wives choir the CuldRoses. She hoped Meneage Street and Coinagehall Street would be full of market stalls and businesses staying open late to welcome shoppers.
Ms Wooderson said the aim was to get as many people in the town as possible on the two nights, adding: “We want to make Helston come alive.”
