Mullion wins 'Silver Gilt' South West In Bloom award
7:00am Thursday 11th October 2012 in Cornwall
Mullion has once again received a Silver Gilt Award in this year’s South West in Bloom Competition.
Members of Mullion in Bloom, which looks after the village’s garden and floral displays, received the award at a ceremony in Weston Super Mare. The team were particularly pleased considering a cold spring and wet early summer made growing conditions difficult.
Despite this, the village was still looking at its best come judging in July. Sadly, on the day of inspection the heavens opened and it rained heavily all day. The judges remained impressed, however, and congratulated the village on its community participation and support from businesses and residents.
They mentioned that visitors must be “delighted” on entering Mullion, because there was so much seasonable and all year round planting to see.
The ‘areas of achievement’ section was described as “outstanding,” with the judges saying in their summing up: “You have fantastic community involvement and great links with both the primary and secondary schools, as well as the National Trust and local businesses.”
Mullion Primary School was praised for its school gardens and horticultural work throughout the year, while Mullion Comprehensive School was also highly commended for its environmental group's hard work and the production of an “excellent” portfolio for the judges by a year ten pupil.
An award ceremony is to be held at The Mounts Bay Inn in the near future to thank everyone for their hard work and support, with everyone welcome.
