Council road safety team win international recognition

Cornwall Council’s road safety team has won an international road safety award for its contribution to improving safety on Cornwall’s roads.

The prestigious Prince Michael awards are presented to individuals, companies or organisations in recognition of their outstanding contribution to improving road safety.

The judges praised the Council’s innovative and refreshing approach to evaluation and commended it as an excellent example of how to approach, the selection and management of ETP (Education, training and publicity) schemes.

Adrian Walsh, the award scheme director said: ‘The award judges were truly impressed by the approach being taken by the Cornwall Council road safety team, which is using these groundbreaking techniques to determine the effectiveness of its work. They considered them to be a really first class example to all professionals in this field.’ Welcoming news of the award, Des Tidbury, the Council’s Head of Community Safety, said “I am pleased that the work of Paula and her team has been recognised in this very important field of work.”

The presentation on 18 October will be followed by a formal presentation by HRH Prince Michael at a ceremony in London on 11 December.
