Youngsters to gain musical experience

Porthleven Town Band has started the autumn with a new training programme for children aged six and above.

The initiative, named the Band Builders Club is run by the bands musical director Tom Bassett, who said: “We believe that this is a unique opportunity for children in the village and surrounding areas to gain free musical experience which could help them in their personal artistic development and educational aspirations.”

The club is proving extremely popular with the children and parents. It has been described as being in a “fun and noisy environment”, whilst remaining disciplined and safe.

The training programme has two classes: one every Wednesday evening between 7pm and 8pm for children with preliminary or no previous musical experience, and another on Mondays between 6.15pm and 7.15pm for children with more musical experience.

Chairman Lynne Lee said: “Porthleven Town Band just goes from strength to strength and I am delighted that our musical director is teaching and overseeing the entire project. We have implemented such a comprehensive training structure as this to ensure a strong foundation for the future.”
