Students were inches from being run over

Helston students were just inches away from getting knocked down by a car forced onto the pavement, it has been claimed.

Councillor Ronnie Williams told fellow members of Helston Town Council he had been visited by someone “in a state of shock” after they witnessed the near |incident in Station Road.

He said there were issues in the area of the junction with Hillcrest, where vans and lorries parked “for long periods of time.”

Problems were compounded by cars “flying up and down” Station Road, with Mr Williams alleging: “Traffic coming down or up simply don’t comply to speed limits or conditions.”

These two factors combined recently, almost causing a nasty collision.

Mr Williams said: “What happened is the car coming down took avoiding action and had to go on to the left hand side of the pavements where there were students going up and down. How there wasn’t someone knocked down or hurt they don’t know.

“It’s happening quite regularly – the cause being the parking on the left hand side on Station Road.

“For anyone coming out of Hillcrest, it is very, very dangerous. It’s an accident waiting to happen.”

no doubt nothing will be done until someone gets killed or injured ,there was a time that pavements were safe to walk on. if it is known that cars simply race up and down there, could the speed cops be put into action and fine the offenders. next time it could be an elderly person who may not be able to move out of the way.
